We in the United States enjoy the most abundant and safest food supply in the world.  One of the things that make this possible is that food producers, packers, manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers actually collaborate with federal, state, country, and municipal agriculture and public health agencies. 

Here, the supply and regulatory components of our food supply is not an adversarial relationship and because of that it is surprisingly rare that we have significant food borne illness outbreaks.

Yet somehow thousands of people still become ill from contaminated food products.  And the unfortunate fact is that almost all of these instances are entirely preventable.
